Fourth Week of Lent
Ezekiel 47.1–9,12
Psalm 45(46).2–3,5–6,8–9ab
John 5.1–3,5–16
In this fourth week of Lent, the ‘mood music’ of our daily Mass readings shifts – it becomes more focussed on what we will celebrate in Holy Week. Baptism is one of the great themes of the Paschal Vigil, and in Lent we join ourselves with the thousands of catechumens all over the world preparing for their baptism; and Ezekiel’s vision of the water flowing from the Temple and the healing of the man healed by the pool at the Sheep Gate both point forward to this.
