Inspired by Romero’s life, schools promote the principles of Catholic Social Teaching

Through the Oscar Romero Award, McConn-Finch concludes, her school has become more than just a place of learning: “It is a community driven by love, justice, and a commitment to making a difference in the world.”

One way of making Catholic schools distinct was by focusing on human dignity and social justice, as taught in CST. This was the genesis of the Oscar Romero Award, a tool developed by members of Catholic schools to help them actualise the Catholic Church’s teaching on the aims of Catholic education.
