There are plenty of variations for the often-used quote sometimes attributed to St Ignatius Loyola that broadly runs along the lines of, “Give me a child till he is seven and I will show you the man.” This maxim is running through my mind as Peter Godwin tells me about the impact going to a Jesuit school in Zimbabwe, then Rhodesia, has made on his life – despite the fact that he wasn’t even a Catholic when he started there.
