Cost-of-living crisis: Remedy harm done to low paid

Across the country, family incomes are expected to fall by around two per cent, the largest drop in half a century. Those least able to cope with such a decline are those already on the borderline, where fuel poverty is added to all the other kinds of poverty that afflict them.

The number of families suffering what is called fuel poverty, meaning they cannot afford to heat their homes, is expected to rocket skywards this spring, rising almost as fast as energy company profits.
