The “nones” who so frequently get name-checked in mainstream media coverage on the decline of religious belief aren’t, McGrath contends, people who have completely stopped believing – they have just moved on to something else.

Perhaps the greatest strength of the book is how it navigates the darker side of belief. History is full of examples of theories, whether they be scientific or political, that falsely claim to be neutral.
