A SHORT WALK from Manchester’s landmark church The Holy Name of Jesus, a new sacred space has emerged. Like its near neighbour, this is a hushed and reverent environment, with soulful music playing in the background, and artworks lit by pools of light amid a shadowy background.
We’re at the Whitworth Gallery, and this is an art exhibition (to 18 October) celebrating the role of Catholicism in the life of a young woman who clearly tussled with elements of church teaching, but who is here celebrating its positive spirit and its role in helping to form her as the confident and talented artist she has become.
