The miracle of Fátima – a rural Portuguese parish where the Blessed Virgin appeared to three children in 1917 – inspires over six million pilgrims to visit the site every year. And now, it has inspired Fatima, a movie dramatisation of the miracle, and an invitation for people of all faiths to experience it.

The film time-hops between the events of 1917, when 10-year-old shepherdess Lucia and her cousins saw apparitions of the Blessed Virgin, and modern-day Portugal, where Lucia (played by Sônia Braga and by now an elderly nun) recalls the miracle to a sceptical academic (Harvey Keitel).

Fatima is a religious film, made by Christians with a Christian message. Producer James T. Volk says he was “blown away” by the original story. “These three kids helped spread a message of peace and hope to an entire generation,” he said.
