As a concerned teacher, I urge the need for a nationally recognised qualification in Core Religious Education (RE) for sixth-form students in Catholic schools. The Catholic Education Service (CES) mandates that 5 per cent of curriculum time be dedicated to RE, typically one hour a week, yet this effort lacks the reward of an accredited qualification that could motivate students and contribute to their academic profiles, including potential Ucas points.
