Mother Teresa to become saint this year

Mother Teresa will be canonised on 4 September, the Vatican announced today.

Last year Pope Francis recognised a second miracle attributed to the nun and foundress of the Missionaries of Charity, known for her work with the poor in the slums of Kolkata in India.

She was beatified in 2003 when Pope John Paul II judged that the curing of a Bengali tribeswoman from an abdominal tumour was a miracle. The second miracle, which Pope Francis recognised in December 2015, involved the healing of a Brazilian man with brain tumours.
