New mother finds room for her baby in parish manger

Cardinal Timothy Dolan, chairman of the pro-life committee of the US Bishops’ Conference, used his homily for the pro-life Vigil Mass on the eve of the annual March for Life in Washington D.C. to tell a story of a New York woman who left her newborn child in a manger scene in her church, just before Christmas, writes Michael Sean Winters.

Speaking at the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception Dolan repeated the woman’s words: “I just knew if I left him in God’s hands, my baby would be okay. So I ran into my church [Holy Name of Jesus parish church] and put him in the empty crib. He started crying. I hid in the back of church, knowing Father would find my baby and the people would help him. They did.” Dolan said the whole Church must emulate Holy Name of Jesus parish.
