Schönborn recalls victims of divorce

On the eve of his departure for Bogotá to address the World Apostolic Congress on Mercy (Wacom), Cardinal Christoph Schönborn called for compassion in the face of family conflicts, writes Christa Pongratz-Lippitt.

While the main emphasis at the congress will be on how to heal the wounds of 56 years of civil war in the host country Colombia, Cardinal Schönborn, the Wacom president, will also be stressing the needs of what he called the “victims of divorce” in his keynote address.

Speaking to Kathpress, Cardinal Schönborn said it was vital to remember those who were often forgotten when a marriage ended in divorce, namely “those left behind”, in other words the children and the partner who had been deserted.
