On a balance of unity and diversity

On "A BALANCE OF UNITY AND DIVERSITY" 17th OCTOBER

It makes me weep with frustration that yet again powerful men in the church are seriously questioning the admission of divorced and remarried people to participating fully in the Eucharist.

Who in this case is the sinner and who the sinned against?

How can a church talk of love and deny the repentant sinner a place at the table?

All who share in the meal have baggage of one sort or another, all need forgiveness - some of those who preside most of all.

Yes, indeed, we must care for the poor, the homeless and the immigrant; but it needs a heart full of love to do this, a community ready to love and welcome all.

Only when we share fully in God's loving mercy towards ourselves can we recognize the needs of others and share our riches with them.

Cardinal Hume's metaphorical caravan can only move forward together when it is joyful in God's generosity with all the travellers being fed on the journey at Jesus' table.
