Irony and Laudato Si

I was startled to read a letter so out of tune with the message of Laudato Si (Belching Exhausts 10^th October).

Then I realised it must have been written in an ironic vein. Surely no reader of The Tablet would unreasonably claim to speak for the majority, pour scorn on those who are concerned about the impact of car emissions on the environment and elevate the letter of the law above the welfare of our children and future generations.

Would they?
