Holy Communion is not a reward for those free of sin. We are all sinners. ‘We are not worthy . . ‘. None of us are worthy ‘to receive him’, ‘to enter under his roof’, ‘to receive the crumbs under his Table’ (to use the Anglican Prayer of Humble Access). We rely on His mercy. Not should the withholding of communion be used as a punishment for a particular sin
Anyone who comes with a spirit of repentance and wishes to receive Christ at the Lord’s Table should be welcome. There should be no restrictions against those who are judged to be guilty of any particular sin.’ Who are we to judge?’ Nor should there be any restriction against those from different Christian traditions. It is the Lord’s Table. It is not the Catholic’ Church’s table.
All who love the Lord should be welcome. There should be no analysis of one’s understanding of the doctrine of ‘transubstantiation’. Who does understand it? It is just a mystery.
Yours Sincerely,
Dr Brian Eggins
