In his lovely tribute to Michael McCarthy (The Tablet, 29 August), Jonathan Tulloch attributes to St. Ignatius the statement, "The heart has its reasons of which the mind knows nothing."
Presuming that this did not refer to the ancient martyr from Antioch, I find it ironic that the most famous saying of the author of the "Provincial Letters" should be attributed to the founder of the Jesuits!
