Eucharistic service a blessing for daily communicants

I was saddened to learn from Melanie Kan that in her Diocese of Plymouth there is a trend to disallow the Eucharistic service (The Tablet, Letters, 21 May).

In the summer of 2013, while on holiday, I was present on a Sunday at a Eucharistic service in the diocese of Plymouth. This was the third time that I had attended such a service on a Sunday - albeit in different dioceses. It would be impossible for me to count the many weekday Eucharistic services I have attended.

While the sacrifice of the Mass is the very essence of our Catholic life, the Eucharist itself is never second best. Those of us who are daily Communicants thank God for this privilege as we face a dwindling supply of priests.
