It is 25 September 1843. After years of struggle, anxiety, controversy and prayer, John Henry Newman preaches his final sermon as an Anglican. Standing in the little church of Littlemore, facing a congregation who sobbed aloud, he delivered his address, “On the parting of friends”.
Two years and two weeks later, with the rain pouring down in torrents, he would be received into the Catholic Church.
