Church objects to Sunday Yoga Day celebration

While the BJP-led federal Government is spending millions to make 21 June – International Yoga Day – a major national as well as international event, the Church has expressed concern over why a Sunday has been singled out by the Government to launch such a programme, writes Anto Akkara.

“Our sacred days are being disrupted on different pretexts,” Cardinal Baselios mar Cleemis, president of the Catholic bishops’ conference, told a news conference at Kochi in Kerala.
