Your analysis (“Witness to the world’s poor”, 23 May) of the direction taken by Caritas Internationalis (CI) under my tenure as secretary general is both naive and misleading. For example, support for the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) did not begin in 2010, as you suggest. CI and its member organisations, including Cafod, supported the MDGs from their inception in 2000. Furthermore, if support for the MDGs is viewed as being “counter to Catholic doctrine”, why are they still being promoted on the Caritas website four years after the so-called “reforms” (tinyurl.com/pzn6gtp)?Caritas committed itself to supporting the MDGs in its Strategic Framework 2007-11, which was drawn up before I was even appointed, and was approved by the entire confede
