Gerald O’Collins is right. The Missal is a mess (Letters, 7 March). Of the 45 years I have been a priest, the last four have been spoiled by the very book which should delight. Instead it so often distracts and puzzles.I have heard parishioners say: “You say the words: we do not know what they mean.” The Holy Father could easily heal the hurt. In his curial reforms he could dissolve Vox Clara. He could return the 1998 translation to the bishops with an instruction to implement it.Pope Francis wants bishops to be shepherds who have the “smell of the sheep”.
