The scarcity of priests: a solution


 
Tony Beetham ends his letter (29 November) with “food for thought”and I would like to add “time for action”, regarding non-stipendiary/self-supporting ministry in the Anglican communion. I think we Catholics should take action on this successful method of ministry. I personally know 10 men who would make excellent non-stipendiary priests. They are well qualified and highly motivated to care pastorally for people. They have many years’ experience of working in parish communities and I would suggest that their initial training be short but ongoing following ordination.
