I was most moved by the compassion of your editorial (“Blaming the woman does Church no credit”, 11 October) on the situation of women who become involved in close relationships with Catholic priests. It brought to mind the situation of another group of women, the wives of Anglican priests whose husbands convert to the Catholic faith, then become Catholic priests.The wife of an Anglican priest often has a recognised role, or roles, in her husband’s parish. She is known to everyone as the vicar’s wife.
