As always, the insights of Basil Loftus (Letters, 26 May) concerning new priests are spot on. This includes his observation that priests must be able to “discern situations rather than discuss ideas”.
I must stress, however, that pure theology cannot be neglected. Good spirituality must be founded on good theology.
