Relatives of the Leeds teacher Ann Maguire, stabbed to death in front of her class last year by a 15-year-old pupil, have called for an independent public investigation of the events surrounding the attack, writes Paul Wilkinson.
They claim the inquiry launched last November by Leeds Council’s safeguarding children board will not establish how her killer was able to take a knife into the classroom at Corpus Christi Catholic College and why previous threats were missed.
A full inquest has not been held and the safeguarding board refused to hold a Serious Case Review, opting instead for a local review. The council said that the legal grounds for a serious case review had not been met.
