Ecumenical community launched

by Rose Gamble

A group of young Christians took vows committing to a way of life drawn from the Rule of St Benedict, as part of a service to launch a new religious community based at Lambeth Palace, writes Rose Gamble.

The 16 resident and 20 non-resident members of the Community of St Anselm gathered in the Bishop’s Chapel on 18 September, to make pledges in front of family, friends and their abbot, the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby.

Archbishop Welby hoped that the new community would be “prophetic”.

There are four Catholics in the community including Katie Fantaguzzi from the United States and her Argentinian husband, Ignatio. The couple are non-resident members.
