Allow God to take you by surprise

Ten years after the death of Karol Wojtyla, there have been many testimonies to his holiness but little has been said about his legacy to the priesthood. Here a seminary rector reflects that the saint, like the present Pope, wanted priests to be open to the unexpected One obvious disadvantage of a long papacy is the number of people who have no memory of any other Pope. That was the case even for thirtysomethings when John Paul II died after 26 years in office.And as for Catholics, more generally so for many priests. They declared themselves to be John Paul II priests. They were able to identify with the strong, confident clarity that they saw as marking those years.
