Last year, new legislation was passed by the European Union that will mean greater transparency when multinational oil, gas and mining companies work overseas. We will finally be able to check that local communities in poor countries are getting a fair deal for their resources, thanks in part to people who made sure their MPs were pushing for this crucial legislation.A significant group involved in lobbying for the measure were Cafod MP correspondents. These play a crucial role in supporting the charity’s work by committing to send personalised letters three times a year or more to their MP.
