Never mind apocalyptic fiction, reality is hard enough to credit any day


 

There’s a strain of news coverage at the moment that is very down on the Olympic Games, for which there is much scope. In The Sunday Times, Neil Oliver, who says he hates sport, recruited God in his campaign against the Games. “Even God is against Rio, that much is obvious,” he wrote. “When God wants us not to do something he sends a plague of insects. We know this from the Bible. In advance of the Olympics in the Brazilian city, he has sent disease-riddled mosquitoes. We do well to heed the warning.”
