Spiritual readings – 20 February 2016

Lent is the time for entering into oneself. It is the period of particular intimacy with God in the secrecy of one’s own heart and conscience. Words such as those of the Psalmist, one of the profoundest confessions which man has ever made to God: “Have mercy on me, O God, in your goodness; in the greatness of your compassion wipe out my offence. Thoroughly wash me from my guilt and of my sin cleanse me. For I acknowledge my offence and my sin is before me always: Against you only have I sinned, and done what is evil in your sight” (Ps 51:1-6). Those are purifying words. Transforming words. They transform man within and are a testimony of transformation. Let us recite them often during Lent.POPE JOHN PAUL IIIN PRAYERS AND DEVOTIONS: 365 DAILY MEDITATIONS ED. BISHOP PETER
