Life to the full
On Vocations Sunday this month, we prayed for all those discerning what God is calling them to do, and if he is calling them to the priestly or religious life. Ten Ten offers resources to schools to aid this process / By Martin O’Brien
AS CHILDREN we all wonder what we will do in the future. One of the vocations most of us have first-hand experience of people living out is parenthood. It is a precious vocation – and, when parents are happy and fulfilled, children may see themselves getting married and having children themselves.
On the other hand, children may dream about being soldiers, police officers or fire fighters – people who protect us and maintain peace. When children are good at science and they like helping people, their parents may ask them if they think they might become a doctor or a nurse or a vet; and when children are always ready to stand up for what they believe in, always willing to defend others and always willing to argue their point of view they might be asked if they want to be a lawyer when they grow up. And children who admire one of their teachers may want to become a teacher themselves.
