How to understand Confirmation

There are different notions of the meaning and purpose of this sacrament of initiation; some are more helpful and accurate than others but examining its origins in the early Church is most rewarding Young people in their thousands will be celebrating the Sacrament of Confirmation during this Easter season, ranging in age from eight to 15. Some of the eight-year-olds will be confirmed and receive their first Holy Communion; the others will have received their first Holy Communion years before and are being confirmed. It all depends on their diocese.Confirmation, together with Baptism and Holy Communion, is a sacrament of initiation.
