Food for the hungry

In his first homily as Pope, Francis warned the Church against the danger of becoming a sort of NGO. World Mission Sunday tomorrow is a good moment to remember what we offer along with material aid Pope Francis, in his message for World Mission Sunday this year, begins: “Today vast numbers of ­people still do not know Jesus Christ”, and voices his concern that: “the Mission ­continues to be urgent.” It is strange how some people believe and others do not. Some have the luxury to choose; others in our world do not have the choice.In Evangelii Gaudium (EG), Francis says that the worst neglect of the poor is the lack of their spiritual care. He says, “I want to say, with regret, that the worst discrimination the poor suffer is the lack of spiritual care
