Fresh eyes on the liturgy

Attending Mass when abroad can be particularly stimulating and instructive. Observing and appreciating the creative input from other cultures can help the faithful refresh their own customs MAKING THE long car journey home from Lourdes can be stressful with two young grandchildren in the back seat. One plan was to stop overnight in Lille, where a Google search disclosed a Sunday evening Mass at the Eglise Saint-Maurice in the city centre – a large and very old church. A quarter of an hour before Mass was to begin, there was a lot of movement around the temporary-looking raised ambo situated in the middle section of the church.
