Cardinal Reinhard Marx of Munich has a key role as one of the Pope’s eight key advisers on Vatican reform – the C8 – but has been struggling to keep up in the group’s meetings. Why? His Italian is a little rusty.As a result, Cardinal Marx, who is effectively the European representative of the group, has been working hard to get his Italian up to speed. The C8 meetings are conducted solely in Italian and there are no interpreters present.
