The ongoing discussion of divorced and remarried Catholics not being in a proper “state of grace” to receive Holy Communion invites the question: Who is in a proper state of grace? We priests were ordained to “feed the sheep” – not to be God’s policemen. Human power should not bar any sheep who is hungry for the true presence of Christ from receiving the Eucharist.
