What hope for the Church if Elena Curti’s online report (“Cardinal Sarah blocked discussion of gays, says bishop”) is correct? We read that “In his synod intervention, Cardinal Sarah, Prefect for the Congregation for Divine Worship, compared ‘gender ideology’ with Islamic State fundamentalism and Nazism”. One has come to expect homophobia. But ludicrous statements like this should be scotched immediately at the highest level and those making such inflammatory remarks should be promptly censured. The Church has lost so many God-loving people because of sexual abuse and the hierarchy’s mismanagement of it. Most of us know and love more people who do not tick the heterosexual box than were sexually abused. The Church will lose many more people
