Anne Inman (Letters, 12 September) decries the absence of women confessors for women penitents. In the unlikely case of such confessors being appointed in the foreseeable future, can I offer a stopgap? Should any Catholic be able to assure me that they have bared their soul to a trained and competent Christian spiritual director, female or male, accepted appropriate support during such sessions and made a  firm intention of amendment, I would have no hesitation in immediately giving that p
