Putting Walsingham on the map


 
I found John KeNtleton’s reaction to Mgr John Armitage’s plans for Walsingham rather extreme (Letters, 11 July). Does he realise that Mgr Armitage has been appointed rector by the Bishops of England to bring the shrine up to the standard of other European Marian National Shrines and to encourage greater knowledge of the shrine throughout the country? The Catholic Media Centre is an attempt to spread the Good News of Walsingham to the modern world and enable those now unable to participate physically to be present at Mass each day if they so want. There is no conference centre at the moment and school groups of 100 are not uncommon – a headache when it is wet for teachers and pupils alike.
