The text of Gerald O’Collins’ open letter to English-speaking bishops about the current translation of the Missal (7 March) has been reproduced by other journals and websites around the world. The Tablet’s leader the following week supported his position as did a number of the published letters. This week, Bishop Maurice Taylor, one-time chairman of the International Commission on English in the Liturgy, added his voice to the discussion, whereas Fr Leo Chamberlain (Letters, 21 March) argues in favour of the new translation, all opinions that we should hear and respect.
