Ted Harrison’s article about red poppies (“Between the crosses, row on row”, 8 November) prompts me to mention that in past years our Justice and Peace Group and my parish church have sold white poppies alongside the red poppies provided by the British Legion. Our parish priest draws attention to both poppies at the end of Mass and explains that while we mourn the war dead with the red, we also pray and work for the end of all wars with the white. The white poppies are available from the Peace Pledge Union in London, which was started by women after the First World War. Any money we collect we send to Pax Christi.As this year was the 100th  anniversary of the Great War, it was deemed insensitive to sell our white poppies. So we plan to sell them on Peace Sunday in J
