Compromised sacraments?


 
In your leader (“Marriage and the real world”, 15 March) you refer to cohabitation and ask if the Church has tacitly come to terms with a significant development in the way people live their lives, and ask, “How do we help them live them better?” To me this question goes beyond marriage and cohabitation and starts with the attitudes of many towards the sacraments and Sunday Eucharist. Of my 13 grandchildren in four families, only one family with younger children attends Sunday Mass and confession on a regular basis yet all, including their parents, when they do attend Mass receive the Eucharist without any qualms of conscience. All have made their First Communions and most have been confirmed. I find this so sad as they completely miss the spiritual elements of the
