I was surprised to read in your interview with Archbishop-elect Malcolm McMahon (“Liverpool’s engineer for change”, 29 March) the Young Christian Students movement described as the precursor to the Young Christian Workers. The Young Christian Workers has existed in England and Wales since 1937, many years prior to the foundation of the Young Christian Students in this country. While taking inspiration from the YCW founder, Joseph Cardijn, and adopting his “see, judge, act” methodology, the YCS was established as, and continues to be, an autonomous movement. However, it was wonderful to learn that Archbishop-elect McMahon will be installed on the Feast of St Joseph the Worker.
