Independence – not fracture


 
Michael Lloyd (Letters, 15 February) says that should the political unity of Great Britain be severed, so may also be the social union. Indeed, he even suggests that “rUK” (rest of the UK) would be either a cold observer or an embittered opponent of an independent Scotland. This is an entirely negative view of the reconfiguring of what might be called the home nations. Does he really believe that a country opting for independence thereby becomes what amounts to an enemy of its neighbours?
