As a member of the St Vincent de Paul Society I feel deeply uneasy that the SVP should be accepting a Big Society Award.My work as an SVP member is done to reverence Christ in the poor and I am privileged to be blessed in this way. I certainly do not welcome the plaudits of David Cameron. His Government promotes the “economy of exclusion” and the “trickle-down theories of economic growth” so eloquently condemned by Pope Francis in Evangelii Gaudium (53; 54).Cameron leads a Government that has done so much in the last three years to damage the needy people whom the SVP is called to serve.
