Home alone? (“Lonely calling?”, 11 January) Well, get out of the house. Most presbyteries (unlike that of the fictional Fr Ted) are ­geographically situated in a town, even small ones, where there is usually a lot of voluntary work with hours to suit, or even part-time paid work to be done. There are usually some of the several options noted below.Preferably find a place of work that has a staff to whom you can relate and compare work-moans, the weather, the customers, the job itself and what’s going on in the lay world. Perhaps a charity shop – the Heart Foundation or similar. Select the “home alone” hours when nobody calls or phones.Perhaps, if you live in a cathedral city, act as a guide for school visits.
