With God alone

Who still believes in the indissolubility of marriage? With divorce and remarriage likely to be on the agenda at the Synod in Rome in October, it seems that many Catholics believe the relationship need not last until death. Some, however, still hold fast to the bond I recently revisited Brideshead and wondered what on earth I’d made of Evelyn Waugh’s masterpiece 20 years before when I first read it as an atheist.
