Politics almost as usual


 
Brazil’s presidential elections will go to a second round later this month with two candidates, the current president and a former state governor with a playboy image. While the battle will be fought along the usual party lines, the outcome is unpredictable Brazil’s presidential election has thus far been full of surprises and tragedy. Until the last minute, polls were predicting a run-off between President Dilma Rousseff and Marina Silva, a one-time rubber-tapper from the Amazon who was offering a “new politics”.But in the first round of the election last Sunday, Brazilians, it seems, voted for the old politics.
