Campaigner for changes in attitudes both inside and outside the Church, educator and writer  One of the most remarkable monks of his generation, Dom Philip Jebb, died on Pentecost Sunday. It is a day he would have liked, being the last day of the paschal season and the birthday of the Church.Dom Philip was the son of Rex Jebb, a schoolmaster, and his wife Eleanor, the daughter of Hilaire Belloc. His childhood was spent at King’s Land, Shipley, in West Sussex. It was shared with his grandfather in a house that lacked all mod cons but had its own private windmill. He retained an exceptional veneration for people and things that were old, sometimes very old. He had a lifelong interest in archaeology, particularly of the Pre-Roman period in England, and on his desk at his death wa
