You won’t find many adults who can look at the camera and say things with such devastating honesty as the children in this series about youngsters and what they say. As if to compound the impression that growing up is simply a process of losing the good sense we were born with, the few adults taking part often seemed irredeemably silly.
“If adults can’t dance then you have to walk away and act like you don’t know them,” was one child’s sage advice. Take eight-year-old Abigail, from the episode “Love and Hate” (11 May): her parents are finally getting married but they are making such an almighty meal of the arrangements. When the bride twirled in front of her, Abigail shrugged – “But you’re supposed to say I look like a princess!” cried her mother petulantly. Abigail merely gave the camera a sceptical look.
