At its best, the Edinburgh Fringe offers more opportunities for bad behaviour than an Open University summer school. At its worst, it can be deadly serious. This year’s pop-up theme of mental health – and it’s remarkable how consensual Fringe programming can seem even in social media times – offered some moments of wit and lightness but it was more often issues-driven and worthy.
